U3A is a learning cooperative of older people that enables members to share many educational, creative, and leisure activities. The Third Age refers to the period of time after the First Age of childhood dependence and the Second Age of full-time employment and parental responsibility.
Anyone in the Third Age can join U3A, and this includes people who are working part time. No qualifications are required, and none are given. There is no lower age limit for membership.
The Hoylake, West Kirby and District U3A is fairly new, formed in February 2008 and growing. Study groups are still forming and welcoming new members. At present there are 100 members and the approximate number per study group is 8. Examples of study groups are: Art Appreciation, Music Appreciation, Family History, Italian Conversation, Walking, Theatre Visits, Outings, and Bridge.
