Chantilly Tea Room & Coffee House

4.8 (12)
Chantilly Tea Room & Coffee House

Pam and Les Bell, the proprietors, have been self-employed for more than thirty years.  This new venture has come after a two-year semi-retirement.  They formerly owned Maples Coffee Shop in St  Werburgh's Square in Birkenhead from 1997-2008.  This was a family-run business which included themselves, their daughter and Pam's mother.  Now in her mid-eighties, Pam's mother has even made an appearance at Chantilly in her usual role of washing dishes.

Les is a qualified baker, confectioner and chef pâtissier.  All products are handmade by Les and range from delicious pies, quiches, curry, and chilli to scones, Eccles cake, fresh cream cakes, Bakewells, etc.  In fact, Les is known as 'Uncle Pie' to family members, who include Hoylake's very own 'The Coral'.

Front-of-house and interior design is the responsibility of Pam who has plenty of experience from previous businesses.

I just love this place and the food. It has a warm and welcoming atmosphere and tasty home made food. I especially love Les's home made granary bread with their home made soup. I never leave without buying one of their lovely fresh scones to take home to my husband. It is the best cafe in Hoylake.

Chantilly hosted music and poetry events during the 2012 Festival of Firsts that, I'm sure, were much appreciated by all who attended. Freestyle music is always enjoyable and this was the best suiting all tastes in rock, jazz and folk. The poetry was mixed, too, in style but not quality, which was of the best. I especially enjoyed the works of the young writers whose efforts should be lauded.

We first heard about Chantilly on the internet while listening Merseyside Radio so made it a point to visit Pam & Les on our next trip to Liverpool from Canada. We weren't disappointed - Les' pastries are to die for.
Chantilly is now a must stop for us when we visit Liverpool each year.

I have been a regular visitor to Chantilly since it first opened.

The food is exceptional, particullarly the cakes and puddings. My husband always has a freshly baked scone with cream and jam, whereas I love the walnut and apple bakewell with cream! The food really tastes as good as it looks.I love the fact that they automatically top up the teapot with more water.

Les does the fabulous cooking and Pam with the help of their daughter and colleagues keeps it all coming to the table. There is always a friendly buzzing atmosphere.

Often over time the food/service in a tearoom/restaurant slips, but I'm delighted that Chantilly contiues to provide such lovely food and service with a smile.

A wonderful tea room thats becoming less and less of a secret (probably because of all the great reviews they're getting)

The cakes, pastries, bread and pies are all freshly home made and expertly done

The place is always very clean and well run, with polite and friendly owners and staff
